Patience, Grasshopper!

The sun has been shining the last couple of days after a cool spell. Bumblin’ Bee had been off work all week and it is really hard to not open Bob to see what’s going on in the hive. They have only been in the new hive for 19 days and he is still trying to be hands off. He added feed yesterday, but with the top hive feeder he didn’t really “open” the hive.

Silver wire is remote temperature probe.

Bumblin’ added a remote temperature probe, like you would use on the grill, to try and read the temperature on the brood box. Last weekend it read 92 degrees. Yesterday it was up to 94. Just something we can monitor without actually opening the hives. He also checked the screen bottom board yesterday and didn’t see any SHB (small hive beetles).  Another good sign things are going well.

He also took some photos of the pollen coming into the hives.

It should be colorful when we do the next inspections on Saturday. A whole two days away. I hope I can wait that long before cracking the lid. The only reason I am holding off is I don’t want to interrupt their natural process. I am hopeful they will have built out 75% of the comb, the queen will be laying feverishly, and it will be time to add a 2nd brood box. Or not, it may be another week.

Patience, grasshopper! Good things come to those who wait.
