Flight Range

Where do our honey bees fly to find pollen and nectar? “As far as they have to” is one answer, and depending on the species, can travel 4-6 miles. The farther they have to fly, the more energy they use up and are much less efficient.

They will forage as close to the hive as possible . Two miles is generally accepted as the maximum ideal range before production begins to drop. One mile would be approximately 2000 acres, while 2 miles extends the area to 8600+ acres.

As you can tell by the 2-mile map below our girls have good access to water, but we have no way of knowing what kind of flowers and plants they are visiting. If you are within the green circle, consider planting honey bee friendly plants. We will tell them to come and visit you! (Just kidding, I wish it was that easy,)  Also, please be careful with any lawn treatments you may be using.
