Honey Flow Is On

The bees are starting to store up honey. I added three more supers today. We now have a total of seven. Today inspections results …

Carny – Super is filling up and will need another one soon. I didn’t get into the brood box.

Middle – Super is nearly full but I didn’t add another one yet. This swarm hive with the virgin queen is still establishing itself and is not very populated. One frame had some larva and spotty drone brood. The other side of the frame had larva in a much better pattern. By next week we should we able to tell if it is worker brood or just more drones. I’m hoping the virgin queen just got off to a slow start.

Eastern – I added a second super and checkered boarded the honey frames with some new foundation and honey frames from the original super. I have had to buy some new equipment recently with the apiary expanding so quickly.

Current lower hives configuration.

Roman – I didn’t do a brood inspection since it appears the hive is very active. I did checkerboard in a new super.

Pasta – The new Italian queen is laying with a full frame of larva. I added another checkerboarded super.

Upper hives configuration.

I went back out later and noticed Eastern was extremely active. Since it was late in the afternoon and there was no fighting at the entrance, I assumed it was just a bunch of new bees doing their orientation flights.
